Marina Barrage: a Dam and a Paradise

Marina Barrage may not be one of your options when visiting Singapore since the place is kind of far from the most visited attraction in the country especially if you only have few days in your itinerary but I must say that this place has impressed us so far. Not only because of it’s paradise-like view but because of how huge this project is contributing to the sustainability of the city-state of Singapore.

Marina Barrage, Singapore

Marina Reservoir

Singapore officially opened Marina Barrage last 2008 which is now considered as the 15th reservoir and the largest in the country.

This S$ 3 billion-project was built in Marina Channel connecting Marina East and Marina South.
The project is suppose to promote environment sustainability and make it as an attraction at the same time.

Marina Bridge

Here is the Marina Bridge between the Dam ( left ) that provide Water Supply to the downtown of Singapore and Marina South sea ( right )

The bridge also serves as a Flood Control barrier to the low-lying cities like Chinatown and Geylang.

Sustainable Singapore Gallery

Sustainable Singapore Gallery is a newly-opened gallery located within Marina Barrage vicinity.
It is where they showcase an exhibit of how committed Singaporeans are when it comes to strictly implementing a Green Environment.

The gallery has 6 zones, from taking an to Climate change to waste management down to discovering renewable energies in the country.

They are open daily from 9 am – 6 pm but close on Tuesdays only.

Visiting this place have been an eye-opening for us. Among all countries, Singapore has been saving the world ever since.

Lifestyle Attraction

The vast area of Marina Barrage also provides Lifestyle Activities such as Picnic, Kayaking, Biking & Scooting as well as Kite Flying. A perfect place to bring your family and love ones for leisure with the breath-taking view of the sea. Pets are also allowed to take for a stroll and play.

We definitely love this paradise. Seeing huge kites and people having fun makes us happy too.

How to get there?

By Bus: If you are in Marina Bay Sands already, the best option is to get to the 9-minute ride from the Bus Stop of Marina Bay Financial Center and wait for Bus 400 Shenton Way. The bus will also stop in Marina Blvd. & Gardens by the Bay.

By Walking: Since we are just in Gardens by the Bay, at that time so we just took a 15-min walk from there to the Marina Barrage.

Check here : PUB for Tour Bookings.

Overall Marina Barrage is surprisingly amazing. We never thought of discovering another hidden paradise in the country where its citizens value environmental sustainability more than anyone else in the world.
