Bohol Island (Day Tour) | Cebu

Bohol is an island province located in Central Visayas, Philippines. It is famous for its majestic sceneries and land forms that can only be seen on the island. The capital is called “Tagbilaran” where tourists from many countries usually get to visit a number of sight-seeing spots like parks, malls, museums etc. Bohol is has been one of the tourist destinations for beaches and resorts.

For Tickets and Fares, Bohol Island is certainly a budget-friendly paradise to go for an adventure without hurting your pockets.

Getting to Bohol island

Few days before our plan to go to Bohol Island, we bought our Ocean Jet tickets in one of their outlet stores in the shopping Mall. You can also book online from Cebu-Bohol or just buy tickets directly in Pier. Ticket costs around 500 pesos for one-way fare and we both spent 2000 pesos for back & forth fare.

Departure to Bohol usually starts at 5 am. We booked the 6 am one and we arrived in Bohol at 8 am. Traveling by boat ( Ocean Jet ) takes 2 hours. I prefer an early morning departure since it would feel refreshing once you arrive.

Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills of Bohol is declared to be “Jewel of the Philippines ” because of it’s gorgeous cone-shaped hills formation . These hills are mostly found in Carmen town. It turns brown in summer and turns green in other seasons. It is said that there are 1,776 hills covering the island of Bohol.

You can get there by motorbike or private car. They do provide parking spaces with fee.
Entrance Fee to the Chocolate Hills costs 50 pesos ( 1 USD ) per head.

Butterfly Garden

There are 3 Butterfly Sanctuaries in Bohol Island and we got the chance to visit the “Can-olin Butterfly Sanctuary” that is located in the town of Bilar, two-ride away from the capital of Tagbilaran.

The place is great for curious people to know more about Butterflies’ Metamorphosis. Tour guides are really accommodating. They taught us a lot about butterflies. We love their garden and the place has area where you can take a photoshoot. Food is great as well. It is one of our favorites.

Entrance fee is 30 pesos. They are open from 8 am – 5 pm Daily.

Tarsier

Philippine Tarsier ( Tarsius Syrichta ) is named as the world’s smallest primate and is already considered as one of the endangered species. These small creatures can only be found in Bohol, Island. There are 2 sanctuaries mainly between Sikatuna & Corella and the other is in Loboc.

There are rules and regulations when visiting the sanctuaries so we must be careful. Visitors are not allowed to use selfie sticks to capture Tarsiers to prevent them from panic attacks. Tarsiers are very sensitive and they sleep almost every time.

Going there, we spent 60 pesos per head for the Entrance Fee. The place is accessible to a nearby restaurant and we hired “habal-habal ” or motorbike just to get to the Tarsier Sanctuary.

Man-made Mahogany Forest

Mahogany Forest, also known as Bohol Forest is a must-place to visit in Bohol. What so special about it is that it is indeed man-made and it’s the first one in the Philippines. The Forest is filled with Mahogany trees that extends up to 2 km between the borders of Loboc and Bilar towns.

The place is free and it’s perfect for relaxing and taking a break. My boyfriend and I actually took a walk and we felt connected with nature. I can say it’s one of the remarkable spots of the island.

Mini Zoo

Before going to the city, we dropped in to a so-called Mini Zoo located in Bilar Town. This zoo has no exact name and it was not even in our plan but we tried to take a look. Entrance fee there was 40 pesos and we were able to see crocodiles, crow and bunnies. They didn’t have that many animals but at least my boyfriend was able to hold an Albino Python for the first.

We love that the place has a long wooden bridge that is surrounded with rice field. We could really feel the province atmosphere.

Bohol Souvenirs

Bohol Souvenirs can be bought almost everywhere especially in most parks & sanctuaries. You can buy these when you get to Chocolate Hills, Bohol too. Most visitors would buy Tarsier keychains & Magnets, I LOVE Bohol shirts & bags, hand-made wallets. Exotic snacks like Crispy Worms are a must-buy souvenir.
Bohol Island is also known for its ” Kalamay “, a sweet sticky delicacy made with glutinous rice, coconut milk and dark brown sugar.

Be sure not to miss buying these souvenirs.

There is so much to explore in the beautiful island of Bohol. The time we spent there was totally worth it and we would like to go back for more.
