What is it like arriving in the Best Airport in the world? Well, it’s far the most convenient I have experienced with the most glamorous and impressive infrastructure I have ever seen.

Arriving in Changi Airport is definitely hassle-free but leaving there takes preparation to go to the city. I’ll give you some tips especially for First-timers on what to do when you arrive the Airport of Singapore.

Arriving in Singapore [ Guide for First-Timers ]

Boarding Time

Check your belongings and prepare for a smooth landing. Upon landing, you will hear an audio reminder about the things that are prohibited in the city. This is for passengers security purposes as part of the law.

Once you board, don’t forget your luggage and voila, Welcome to Singapore !

Immigration Clearance

We can’t leave the airport without getting through the Immigration.
Be mindful of the things that you need to do and the procedures.
Their immigration lane is vast and they have airport staff to accommodate you on which lane you should be or just fall in line.

If you are not a local of the country, you have to sign a form. Get it in the area provided before going to the lane. Prepare all your documents, visa (if any) and answer all the questions from the immigration officer precisely and honestly. After that, they will scan your passport and ask your thumbprint. Finally, welcome to Singapore again !

Information Area

Once you get around the airport, you can look for the “Information Area” which is very easy to find. You may ask relevant questions about “How & Where Qs” of the airport etc. and they will provide you with the information you need. Expect a very kind and happy staffs because they want to make things easy for your arrival.
The staffs basically use English so communication will never be a problem.

Change Currency

There are 2 ways to change your money currency when you get there. They have ATMs almost everywhere and Money changer shops like : Travelex & UOB Money Changer )

You may ask the Information Desk the nearest shop from where you are or just simply look for the signs.

Pocket Wifi/Prepaid Sim Card

Wifi in Singapore may not be free in some places and it’s not everywhere so better provide yourself one. You can either rent a pocket wifi or get your own sim card. It is usually bought in Changi Recommends Shop, Singtel Shop or some money changer shops like Travelex .

There are a lot of cards to choose from. Most of them offers unlimited access to sns like Facebook, Line and etc. Choose the one that will fit your needs.

Transportation Card

There are 4 major transportation cards in Singapore:

  • EZ-link
  • Singapore Tourist Pass
  • NETS Flashpay
  • Standard Ticket

Get to know their Pros & Cons. The card that matches your need may depend on the length of your stay and how often will you be using it.

These cards can be used for MRT, LRT, bus, taxi and even purchasing good at convenient stores like ; 7eleven etc. You can buy these around the airport and it’s affordable.

Getting to your Hotel

Taxi is the most convenient way of transfer to get you to your hotel. You can easily find them once you get to the Exit of Changi Airport. Fare to the city would cost you around 20 SGD- 35 SGD.


Make sure you have enough change with you. They also accept Credit Cards for payment but you have to inform the driver ahead if you are going to pay by CC because the machine might be faulty and they have additional charge for that so better get some money in the airport.

Getting to MRT Stations

Currently, there are 4 Terminals in the airport. To get to the nearest MRT Station, you have to go to Terminal 2. The station is just in the basement of T2. Follow the signs. Once you get there, catch a train to Tanah Merah Station. It will lead you to the city or nearest station to your Hotel.

Get a Map

Map is free. You can get it when purchasing a Transportation Card in the airport. Getting one would help you a lot in going around the city.
